Cinco de Mayo, Spanish for May 5th, is a Mexican holiday, often confused with Mexico’s true Independence Day which is actually on September 16th. It has gained much popularity here in the United States as we think of Cinco de Mayo as having food with friends and family, inviting in the Mexican culture and of course the revelry. To our surprise, Cinco de Mayo really isn’t celebrated much in Mexico except for a little small town called Puebla.
The History of Cinco de Mayo
The date May 5th commemorates the Battle of Puebla in 1862, when the small underdog Mexican army successfully defended Puebla against large invading French forces. You remember who Napoleon III is, right? He was the one that led the French in an effort to gain control of that area. Their goal was to spread the European Union and gain riches from the silver-rich land. Great thing for Mexico, the attempt to take the town was thwarted which gave the town of Puebla reason to celebrate!
Let the Celebration Begin!
In 1863, Cinco de Mayo was recognized by the state of California to show sympathy and solidarity with Mexico against French rule. Today we celebrate Cinco de Mayo to recognize the rich Hispanic heritage. We celebrate in their culture by having margaritas, Coronas with a lime, tacos, enchiladas, beans and rice, and yummy pancita. All the ingredients you need for a ¡FIESTA!
Speaking of Tacos…
Building a taco with your favorite items can be a lot of fun at parties and especially at home with the family. Unfortunately, there always seems to be a challenge when it comes to making tacos. We know we could all enjoy the preparation of a yummy taco without all the toppings falling out all over our plates or onto the floor. This is where Taco Totes can come in. They hold the tacos upright in order to keep them from toppling over and making a mess. There is no clean-up, and we can celebrate our freedom enjoying our scrumptious tacos. We should take a stand, and stop using those silly coffee filters.
Why Should We Tote Our Tacos?
Our holders keep the shell upright in the stand while we create our masterpieces. They create tons of fun with kids as they can turn into miniature Frisbees. And of course, they can enjoy their independence by building their own tasty treat, and with – moms will love this – less mess! When you’re done, just throw these disposable beauties away! Now, you can officially enjoy a clean, mess-free taco on Cinco de Mayo! ¡Arriba México!
